Biography

It began as a passion for music and has blossomed into a thriving and God-inspired ministry. The training and experiences in leading worship as a student at Moody have awakened a desire in Angie Thomas to bring God's people into His presence through music.

With a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Moody Bible Institute, and a Masters in Church Music from Concordia University, Angie is a skilled and well-trained musician. As the former Music Director for the Moody Broadcasting Network, Angie was able to use her vocal, piano and arranging talents on various Christian radio programs including "The Adoration Songbook" and "Proclaim!" hosted by Dr. Joseph Stowell. Angie is also a regular session singer for Hope Publishing, based in Carol Stream, Illinois.

In addition to her work on the radio, Angie has had the opportunity to work behind the scenes with many well-known artists at the Moody Broadcasting concert series formerly known as the Friday Sing. One of these artists is Damaris Carbaugh. "Angie Thomas loves Jesus," says Damaris. "Angie worships the Lord and that is why others are led in worship."

Whether she's at conferences or church retreats, people are being led to worship through Angie. Many women have seen Angie lead worship at the Moody Women's Conferences throughout the country: Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio; and Loudonville, New York. Anita Lustrea, host of Midday Connection on the Moody Broadcasting Network, has been at several of the conferences as the emcee. She has this to say about Angie: "She is one of the most sensitive worship leaders I know. Angie's musical ability coupled with her spiritual sensitivity is a powerful package." Sally Hurlbert of the Village Church of Bartlett in Bartlett, Illinois, was encouraged to have Angie lead worship for her church's women's retreat: "When she is leading worship, my thoughts don't go to her…my thoughts go to how good, awesome, holy and loving God is, and how thankful I am for Jesus Christ and the sacrifice He made for me."

In addition to her giftedness in leading worship, Angie is also an extremely talented classical vocalist. She has performed as a feature soloist in Handel's Messiah at Moody Bible Institute and Concordia University and has been hired as a guest vocalist at various classical performances in the Chicagoland area. During the summer of 2006, Angie participated in the award-winning Grant Park Music Festival Chorus, performing concerts with a variety of world-renowned musicians.

Angie currently serves on the music staff at First Baptist Church Geneva in Geneva, Illinois, where she uses her God-given abilities on a weekly basis.

Angie believes that worship is a personal conversation between the worshipper and God. "It can happen anywhere: in a formal setting such as a church sanctuary, or in a car as we're driving home from work," she says. When all is said and done, Angie's prayer is that the conversation between Maker and child will continue long after events have concluded and the music has ceased…that is worship at its very core.
